About MAKA Minigolf

MAKA Minigolf is a new miniature golf course being built in Ashtabula County, Ohio.

After searching for the perfect location, we placed an offer on a vacant wooded lot on 11/08/2021. The offer was accepted, and the official date of sale was 12/15/2021.

The first phase of the miniature golf course construction involved working with the Ohio Department of Transportation to establish the best location for a field driveway and to acquire the necessary permits. We met with the department of transportation on 01/05/2022 and a driveway permit was issued on 01/18/2022. Once the necessary permits were obtained an excavation company was hired to install a culvert and gravel driveway. We started clearing the brush by hand for the driveway on 02/20/2022. The contractor finished installing the driveway on 03/16/2022.This allowed access to the property.

The second phase of the miniature golf course construction was to clear the land for the parking area. The planned parking area was 65 feet deep by 175 feet wide. This should accommodate approximately 19 vehicles. To minimize the impact on the environment, the majority of the parking area was cleared by just us without using power tools and with just hand tools. The brush and small trees were cut up into small pieces and left on the ground for a wood chip parking area.

The contractor finished installing the driveway on 03/16/2022. We began clearing the land for the parking area. The work is being done by ourselves with just hand tools. The brush is being cut up in small pieces and being used for a wood chip parking area. We worked on it for 4 hours.

Finished Clearing Brush for Course

On 04/13/2024 we finished clearing the brush for the course by hand using loppers and a machete. There are still some larger dead trees that need to be cut down. We worked for 5 hours.

Final Grass Cut of the Season

On 10/15/2023 we cut the grass for the last time this season using a scythe and weed whip. In addition, we laid down another 3-foot-wide row of landscape fabric and mulch in the parking area. We also installed small sections of landscape fabric and mulch spaced 8 feet apart in a row for eastern white pine frost seeding to be done next month. We also weeded the planting bed in preparation for frost seeding black chokeberry next month. We worked for 4 hours.
